LEWISTON, Maine -- The Keene State College Owls remained unbeaten in first-day play at the Maine Mid-Coast Classic, downing the University of New England 3-1 in a match ending just before 11:00 p.m. at Bates College.

Set scores were 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, and 25-17.  The setback for the Nor'easters (9-7) halted an eight-game win streak.  Keene State--ranked #11 in New England--upped its record to 16-3.

Claire Varner posted another double-double with 15 kills and 16 digs.  Alex Toregas was credited with nine kills and five total blocks, while Ellen Choinski finished with 26 assists and 15 digs.

The Nor'easters resume second-day play Saturday at noon at Bowdoin College in Brunswick.
