Josie Raphaelito (Pine Hill, N.M.), the University of New England Nor'easters came away with a 3-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference volleyball win over the Regis College Pride on Wednesday evening at the Campus Center.
The Nor'easters (15-12, 7-1 TCCC) claimed victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12.
Raphaelito helped lead a strong UNE defensive effort with 12 digs. She was also 17-for-18 on serves received and successfully converted all 15 of her serve attempts.
Junior
Claire Varner (Breckenridge, Mich.) had a match-high 11 kills to fuel the Nor'easters' attack. Senior
Alex Toregas (Chevy Chase, Md.) contributed nine kills and three total blocks. Sophomore
Meghan Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up six kills and five block assists.
UNE also received strong performances from junior
Ellen Choinski (Saunderstown, R.I.), who had 25 assists, five kills and four block assists, and sophomore
Angie Gust (Manitowoc, Wisc.), who served up six aces while converting all 30 of her attempts. Defensively, classmate
Chelsea Boyle (Cumberland, R.I.) tied for match-high honors with 12 digs.
Senior Samantha Reyes (Attleboro, Mass.) set up the Regis attack with 20 assists. Junior Mandy Hoyt (Madison, N.H.) registered a team-high nine digs. Senior captain Ashley Paolini (Epping, N.H.) had five kills for the Pride (12-15, 3-6).
The Nor'easters have a short break before returning to action next Tuesday (Oct. 28) when they host St. Joseph's College at 6:00 p.m.
