Sophomore forward Michelle Epstein continues to give UNE plenty of scoring punch
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Three different players each had one goal and one assist to help the University of New England Nor'easters overcome an early 1-0 deficit on their way to a 4-1 win over Gordon College in a women's soccer game played under the lights Wednesday.
The win was the first over the Fighting Scots since the Nor'easters' championship season of 2000. UNE is 6-1 overall, 4-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference play. Gordon now stands at 2-5-1 overall, 2-2 in conference matches.
After first-year Elisabeth Cheeseman got the Scots on the board in the seventh minute, UNE sophomore
Michelle Epstein drove a shot just inside the right post to tie the score at 1.
The Nor'easters established control late in the first half, scoring back-to-back goals 56 seconds apart.
Sarah Richardson scored the game-winner on a pass from
Ali Trafton, then Epstein and Richardon set-up
Maggie Mahoney, who converted a shot from 10 yards out to give UNE a 3-1 halftime lead.
Trafton tacked on another UNE goal at 54:42, delivering from long range off a feed from
Kristin Meza.
The Nor'easters, who held a 14-4 advantage in shots, return to play Saturday at Curry College (2:30 p.m.).
