BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters got a pair of first-half goals from
Sarah Richardson (Rochester, N.H.) on their way to a 4-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the Salve Regina University Seahawks in a college women's soccer game played Monday afternoon.
Winners of seven consecutive starts, the Nor'easters improved to 10-1 overall, 8-0 in conference play. Salve Regina dropped its fifth straight game to fall to 3-10, 2-6 in TCCC play.
Richardson wasted no time in setting the tone, as she took a pass from
Michelle Epstein (Medway, Mass.) and drilled home a shot from the top of the box with 19 seconds elapsed. She made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, once again accepting a feed from Epstein and placing a shot that the grazed the left post and found its way over the goal line.
UNE extended its lead in the 38th minute when
Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) converted from 10 yards out.
Nicole Ward (Sheffield, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the play.
The Nor'easters completed their scoring in the 57th minute as Epstein picked up her third assist of the afternoon on a goal by
Maggie Mahoney (Newburyport, Mass.).
Salve prevented a shutout when Jennifer Duval (Dudley, Mass.) took a feed from Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn.) and found the back of the net after a scramble off a corner kick.
Leigh Engel (Richmondville, N.Y.) needed just one save to record the victory for UNE, which held a 13-3 advantage in shots. Seahawk goalkeeper Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.) registered four saves.
The Nor'easters will be looking to keep their TCCC mark perfect Wednesday when they head to Anna Maria College for a 3:00 p.m. game. Salve Regina hosts Western New England College that same afternoon (4:00 p.m.).
