UNE held on in the closing stages to halt a six-game losing streak

Nor'easters hold on late to snap six-game losing streak

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- #Gui Barbosa# '08 (Saco, Maine) and #Dylan Saucier# '10 (Windham, Maine) scored first-half goals, and the University of New England Nor'easters fended off a late charge by the Eastern Nazarene College Crusaders for a 2-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer victory Saturday afternoon.

The victory snaps a six-game losing streak for the Nor'easters, now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in TCCC play.  ENC is winless in 11 matches, 0-5 in league play.

#Josh Pouliot# '08 (Attleboro, Mass.) set up Barbosa, who ripped a shot from 15 yards out to give UNE a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

The Nor'easters would double their lead just before the half when Saucier converted from close range for his first collegiate goal.

UNE headed to intermission with a 2-0 lead after controlling play throughout much of the opening 45 minutes.  The hosts held a 10-4 advantage in shots and 5-1 margin in corner kicks in the first frame.

The second half would be a different story as the Crusaders gained their rhythm offensively and began to attack the UNE defense.

Brad Leonard '08 (Daleville, Va.), assisted by Josh Garland '11 (Mansfield, Mass.), netted his third goal of the season with a little more than three minutes to play to cut ENC's deficit to 2-1.

The visitors would get no more quality scoring opportunities the rest of the way.

#Derek Poulin# '10 (Scarborough, Maine) had three saves for the Nor'easters, who host Endicott College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

For the Crusaders, who host Roger Williams University that same day, Andrew Trice '11 (Quincy, Mass.) was credited with three stops.
