WENHAM, Mass. -- Gordon College midfielder Kiersten Hess '08 (Santa Barbara, Calif.) notched the only goal of the contest, as the Fighting Scots defeated University of New England, 1-0, this afternoon in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) play on The Quad on the campus of Gordon College.

The Fighting Scots (8-2, 5-1 TCCC) controlled the tempo early as less than ten minutes into the contest Hess took a feed from forward Amy Colwill '08 (Wheaton, Ill.) and found the back of the cage for the fourth time this season as she beat UNE net minder #Leigh Engel# '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.).

The Nor'easters (2-6, 2-3) played solid defense throughout the half, as GC registered 13 shots with eight on goal, but could not get the equalizer through the first 45 minutes of play.

Despite an up-tempo second half of play for the Nor'easters offense, GC goalkeeper Abby Ytzen '10 (Des Moines, Iowa) made three saves to preserve her seventh shutout of the season.

Engel faced 11 shots on net and came away with ten saves in defeat.

The Fighting Scots will travel to Boston on Saturday (Sept. 29) for a TCCC match up with Wentworth Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m. while the Nor'easters will host Eastern Nazarene College in conference play at 11:00 a.m. the same day.
