Pescatello Helps Keep WNEC Perfect in TCCC Play

WNEC improved to 4-0 in TCCC play with a 1-0 shutout of the Nor'easters

Rookie midfielder nets fourth goal in 1-0 shutout

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Midfielder Shannon Pescatello '11 (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored in the 28th minute for the only goal of the evening, as the Western New England College Golden Bears shut out the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action.

The Golden Bears (7-2, 4-0 TCCC) won for the fifth consecutive outing, while the Nor'easters dropped to 2-4 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

Pescatello notched the fourth goal of her young career, converting a cross from classmate Heather Mortell '11 (Webster, Mass.).

Western New England would make the goal stand up in the second half, holding a 6-2 advantage in shots and denying the Nor'easters of many quality scoring chances.  For the match WNEC owned an 11-6 margin in shots taken.

WNEC goalkeeper Jessica Covino '10 (Bristol, Conn.) turned aside three shots to earn her sixth shutout of the season, while her counterpart, #Leigh Engel# '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.), had five for the Nor'easters.

The Golden Bears will look to make it six straight in the win column Wednesday when they host Salve Regina University for a TCCC match beginning at 4:00 p.m.  UNE entertains Colby College Tuesday in a non-league tilt kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
