Mariners Rally in Second Half for 3-2 Victory

Pemberton, Rowbotham tally for UNE in losing effort

CASTINE, Maine -- Katie Hutchinson '11 (Dixfield, Maine) scored in the 77th minute to break a 2-2 tie and give the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners a 3-2 win over the University of New England in a mutual season-opener.

Each team would find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.  UNE rookie midfielder Kate Pemberton '11 (Scarborough, Maine) notched an unassisted goal with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half to tie the score at 1-all.

Lindsey Rowbotham '08 (Minot, Maine) would give the visitors a 2-1 advantage early in the second frame, setting up the Mariners' comeback.

Goalkeepers Leigh Engel '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.) and Beth Ehmann '11 (Ludlow, Vt.) split time in goal for the Nor'easters.  Engel made one save and allowed one goal, Ehmann was credited with one stop and surrendered two goals.

UNE is off until next Saturday when they open The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule at New England College (noon).
