Canty Nets a Pair to Lead Hawks Past Nor'easters

UNE yielded a pair of second-half goals as Roger Williams pulled away for a 3-0 shutout

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kevin Canty '08 (Proctor, Vt.) tallied a pair of second-half goals to help break open a close match, and the Roger Williams University Hawks improved to 6-1-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 3-0 shutout of the University of New England on Saturday afternoon.

Roger Williams takes its third straight win and sixth in its last seven matches to move over the .500 mark at 6-5-1.  The Nor'easters slide to 2-7-1 overall, 1-5-1 in league play.

The Hawks got on the board early when Brandon O'Donovan '09 (Coram, N.Y.) fed D.J. Hunter '11 (Middletown, Conn.) for a goal in the ninth minute, giving RWU a 1-0 lead it would take into halftime.

Canty scored the first of his two goals 58 seconds into the second stanza.  O'Donovan was credited with his second assist of the afternoon on the play.  Canty would later score in the 73rd minute to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage.

Dan Roscigno '10 (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) played the opening 79:57 in net for the Hawks to earn the victory.  He needed to make just one save.

#Derek Poulin# '10 (Scarborough, Maine) had four stops for UNE, which trailed in shots (12-3) and corner kicks (5-3).

Roger Williams will look to make it four consecutive wins Monday in a road match at Babson College.  UNE heads to New London, N.H. on Thursday for a TCCC tilt at Colby-Sawyer College.
