BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Volleyball player Alex Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.) has been selected University of New England Athlete of the Month for September.

Toregas, a middle hitter, averaged 3.54 kills and 1.67 blocks per game in 14 matches for the Nor'easters.  She leads the team in total kills (170), hitting percentage (.229) and total blocks (80).

She has already garnered several awards and honors, including The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week (Sept. 24) and all-tournament team at the Springfield College Invitational.

Toregas has recorded 13 or more kills in eight of 15 matches, including four consecutive outings heading into the team's Oct. 2 match versus Anna Maria College.  She registered a career-high 13 total blocks in a 3-2 loss at Colby College on Sept. 24.
