Women's basketball player Kelly Coleman has been named UNE Athlete of the Month for January 2014.
The junior forward helped guide the Nor'easters to a 10-1 mark during the first month of the new year, which included an 8-1 ledger in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games. Coleman averaged 17.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.9 steals in the period, while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the charity stripe.
She posted four double-doubles along the way -- one that featured a career-high 32 points, as Big Blue constructed a 2nd-half rally at Gordon. In UNE's first match back from the winter break, Coleman established what was then her personal best, going for 25 points in a road win over Endicott. Less than one week later, the Nor'easters' co-captain matched the 25 during an overtime triumph at Salve Regina.
