Field hockey player Beth Sullivan has been named the UNE Athlete of the Month for October 2013.

After going 4-4 through September and allowing 2.75 goals against, Sullivan led the Nor'easters back line as it locked down to post a 9-1 mark in October while giving up just nine goals outside of a setback at No. 3 Tufts. Big Blue won all eight of its CCC matches during the period as well.

The stretch featured UNE's first victory over a nationally-ranked team (No. 18 MIT) in program history -- a game in which the Nor'easters permitted only four shots-on-goal and blanked the Engineers, 3-0. The win over MIT was part of a string of five consecutive shutouts for Big Blue, and was one of six during the 10 games in the month when UNE held its opponent to five shots-on-goal or less.
