Women's basketball player Beth Suggs has been named the UNE Athlete of the Month for February 2013.
Suggs averaged 14.5 points and 9.4 rebounds, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 79 percent (34-for-43) from the free throw line. She had double-doubles in three of the Nor'easters' eight wins during the period, including a career-high 27-point, 10-rebound performance in the regular-season finale at Western New England. In that game, Suggs connected on all 11 of her attempts from the charity stripe, marking just the fifth time in the recent history of the program (since 1988-89) that a UNE player went without a miss in a game after at least 11 tries.
On February 6 at Eastern Nazarene, she became the 21st player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point milestone.
Suggs was later voted Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year and picked to the first team all-CCC for her efforts during the regular-season. She also received two CCC Player of the Week accolades and one from the Maine coaches (MWBCA).
