Women's cross country runner Michaela Moran has been named the UNE Athlete of the Month for September 2012.
Moran, just a first-year student-athlete, raced in all four events for the Nor'easters over the opening month, and put together an impressive series of results. After taking second place (21:37, 5K) at the Saint Joseph's Duel, Moran captured the individual title in the first full-field meet of the season -- the UNE Invitational. Her 5K time of 20:40 was just off the course record, and good enough for a five-second cushion over the next fastest runner in the field of 125.
She continued her strong running by leading the Nor'easters to victory at the Elms Invitational, making it four wins in five seasons for Big Blue at the event. Moran was the individual runner-up in the race out of 115 competitors with a 5K time fo 20:06.
Moran capped off the month with a 15th-place showing out of 317 at the Pop Crowell Invitational (hosted by Gordon College), where she clocked a 5K time of 19:19.
On three occasions, she was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week for her efforts, and also received the CCC Runner of the Week honor following the UNE Invitational.
