Softball player Kelly Reid has been selected as the UNE Athlete of the Month for April 2012.
Reid made 17 appearances during the period and posted a 10-3 record with 11 complete games. She had an earned run average of 1.86 over the span, and opponents registered a .254 batting average against her pitching. Reid worked 83 innings in the stretch, and notched an impressive 79 strikeouts compared to just eight walks.
Not only did Reid pick up victories over defending league champion Endicott (5-1 win, 9 strikeouts) and regionally-ranked Bowdoin (4-0 win, 9 strikeouts) during regular-season action, she hurled the Nor'easters through the first two contests of the CCC Championship. Western New England and Endicott each fell for the second time this year against Reid on April 30, producing a combined seven hits and two walks for just one run versus the rookie right-hander. UNE advanced 2-1 and 3-0, respectively, in those outings.
