Women's basketball player Beth Suggs has been named UNE Athlete of the Month for January 2012.
Suggs averaged 11.9 points and 7.5 rebounds over 11 games during the period, and shot 49.0 percent (50-for-102) from the field. Additionally, she recorded just under 2.0 assists and steals per game.
The junior forward had several impressive performances during the month, including scoring a career-best 24 points in a big win at Eastern Nazarene. Suggs led the team in points on two other occasions -- a setback to then No. 13 Williams (17 points), and a win versus Curry (19). Her lone double-double during the stretch came in that same January 23 game against the Colonels, when she pulled down 13 rebounds.
Suggs dominated the boards nine days later against the same Curry team, grabbing 20 caroms -- a total tied for the 6th-highest single-game output in program history, and the first such effort since Missy Stults '04 did it back in 2001-02.
