Women's cross country runner Colleen Ahern has been named UNE Athlete of the Month for October.
The sophomore from Salem, Conn. was the top Big Blue finisher in all four races during the period. On average, Ahern bested 95 percent of the fields she competed against, including two very impressive top-10 showings at the Pop Crowell Invitational (5th of 270) and Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship (2nd of 103).
Ahern had top-20s in the other two races (17th at the James Earley Invitational; 20th in the Maine Intercollegiate Championship), and was no more than 79 seconds back of the first-place time in any of the four meets.
Her time of 23:43 on the 6K course at Colt State Park (Bristol, R.I.) for the CCC event left Ahern eight seconds off the pace, and was good enough for the second all-conference recognition of her career.
