Cross country runner Matt Veiga '11 has been selected University of New England Athlete of the Month for October.

Veiga, a first-year student from Lynn, Mass., was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Rookie of the Year Saturday after placing third at the TCCC Championship.  He circled the 8,000-meter course in a time of 28:08 to lead the Nor'easters to a third-place finish.

Veiga competed in three events during October, and was the first UNE runner to cross the finish line in each.  He was twice named TCCC Rookie of the Week and one chosen TCCC Runner of the Week.
