Now in her fifth year at UNE, Coach Roy has built the swim program to a point where it is one of the more competitive NCAA III programs in New England.  The Nor'easters picked up a school-record 11 wins during the 2007-08 season and placed 11th out of 21 teams at the 2008 New England Championships.  The Nor'easters went a combined 20-6 the prior two seasons, placing sixth at the New England Championship in 2006 and eighth in 2007.  Roy was selected Women's New England Swim Coach of the Year in 2006.  Prior to coming to UNE, she worked in the aquatics facility at Simon’s Rock College in Great Barrington, Mass. She has a wide variety of experiences as a swim coach and instructor, including being the head coach of the Snappers Swim Club and camp experience at Bates College.

Roy is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where she attained a bachelor’s degree in English and communications. A Maine native, she attended Lewiston High School. Coach Roy is also the Aquatics Coordinator and Men's Swim Coach at UNE.  She and her husband, Paul, reside in Portland.

Kate Roy on UNE: "I love the fact that student-athletes at UNE are driven to succeed in academic endeavors, and are supported by the faculty.  We have a beautiful campus and great campus community.  The UNE swim team attracts self-motivated and hard-working student-athletes.  Members of the team train hard and reap many benefits from the camaraderie and friendships that develop out of dedication and team unity.  As our team continues to grow, it is my goal to have a roster of 25-30 strong swimmers and dedicated team members.  Our goal is to remain as a Top 10 team at the New England Championships, as we strive to represent the University at the NCAA National Championship."
