Assistant Coach - Men's Ice Hockey

Trautz, a graduate of Bentley College, returns to UNE for his third season with a well-rounded coaching resume that includes work with several former and current NHL players and coaches, as well as with some of the top coaches New England has to offer at the collegiate, junior, and prep levels.

He began coaching at Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine as a student assistant in ’00-’01. Trautz then continued his coaching career in Belmont, Mass., where he coached at Belmont Hill School, a New England ISL prep school. He worked with three of their sub-varsity level hockey teams, as well as their alpine ski team at the varsity level, winning the New England Class B title in 2007.

Trautz coached for the Boston Junior Eagles AAA U-16 and U-19 midget teams in the Eastern Hockey Federation from 2002-2007. While with the Eagles, he also spent time working with their full-season 94 AAA level before moving back to Maine to become the head coach for the 94 AAA Portland Junior Pirates.

Trautz then returned to his alma mater--Cheverus--as a varsity assistant for the 2007-2008 season.  In addition to coaching, he has spent time working alongside NHL scouts and agents over the last several years. Trautz also has a strong professional business background, which will enhance his abilities in recruiting and administration for the UNE hockey program.

He resides in Old Orchard Beach, where he works full time for his family’s solid waste business (BBI Waste Industries), as Director of New Business Development.
