David Cotner (LAT, ATC) joins the UNE staff for the 2021-22 academic year as an Athletic Trainer.

Cotner brings more than 30 years of experience in the athletic training profession to UNE. Most recently, he was founder and co-owner of the Human Performance Collective in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Before shifting into more clinical physical therapy/rehabilitation settings in 2011, Cotner spent 13 years in athletic training at the University of Michigan. He also had stints as Head Athletic Trainer at both the University of Maine-Presque Isle (2 years) and Lake Superior State University (4 years).

Along the way, Cotner served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (1998-06). Cotner has worked with two NCAA programs that went on to national championships, and currently trains Olympic and elite runners.

Between earning a bachelor's degrees in physical education, recreation, and health from the University of Maryland (1984) and a master's degree in education, human development, and exercise science from George Washington University (1987), he spent a year as an athletic trainer at George Mason University.
