Flanagan, Forziati capture Southern Maine Cup title

PORTLAND, Maine -- University of New England women's golfers Abby Flanagan and Amanda Forziati teamed up to best nine other pairs at the modified-format Southern Maine Cup (USM), which was contested at Riverside Golf Course on Saturday (Sep. 5).

The specialty event puts a pause on the traditional collegiate golf scoring model and pairs teammates for an 18-hole round with three sections -- six holes of best ball, six holes of best ball after a scramble tee shot, and six holes of scramble.

The duo of Flanagan and Forziati carded a five-over-par 77 on the day, which was five shots clear of USM's Remy Levin and Belle Steeves, as well as Husson University's Abigail Theriault and Caroline Chausse. Last season, Flanagan and Forziati were runner-up to Levin and her partner on a weather-shortened afternoon; Forziati was also in the second-place couple in 2024.

Alone in fourth place was Eadie Nadeau and Brooke Ingram with an 84, while Danielle DeJon and Neave Revaz came in to post 88.

"Coach Flanagan and I could not be any prouder of our entire women's team today," said head coach Kasey Keenan following the round. "Our senior captains, Amanda and Abby, have been looking forward to this opening tournament for a long time and they went out today and competed at a very high level. After getting off to a tough start, they were able to get really locked in and played the final 14 holes at one over par. They also showed incredible leadership in preparation for the day, but that is nothing new for either of them. Danielle, Eadie, Neave, and Brooke were tremendous today, as well. They all fought through a very long day on the course and each of them got better today. On her opening collegiate hole, Brooke went out and made a birdie. We are very excited to continue to challenge our women's golfers over the next month while preparing for October."

Next up for the Nor'easters will be a Wednesday trip to Point Sebago Golf Club for the John Queenan Memorial hosted by Saint Joseph's College.
