BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Troy Silvestri registered 4th place for the University of New England men's cross country squad at the season-opening Ron Ouellette Invitational, which was run Friday afternoon (Sep. 4) at Rotary Park.
It was the sixth annual meet named for the former UNE coach, who retired in 2019 after 20 years at the helm. Ron Ouellette guided the programs to a combined nine conference championships, received a dozen Coach of the Year honors, and was inducted into the institution's Hall of Fame in 2017.
Silvestri (17:07) broke up the bid for a perfect score by the University of Southern Maine, which posted 17 points to top the Nor'easters (48) and Husson University (77) in the three-team field.
The 5K course was competed first by USM's Connor Smith in a time of 15:51.
Thomas Hoff (11th; 18:11),
Michael Erickson (12th; 18:33),
CJ McDonald (15th; 19:30), and
Isaiah Cyr (16th; 19:41) rounded out the UNE score, with
Alex Garron and
Riley O'Hara next across the line.
"This was a solid starting point for the men, and reflects the work they put in this summer," commented head coach Kourtney Bonsey. "We have work to do, and I look forward to seeing that progress come into play later in the season."
The new year continues on September 19 at the Maine Championship on the campus of Bowdoin College.
