BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Penny Baroni scored three times to power No.6 Babson College past the University of New England, 5-0, in field hockey Tuesday evening (Sep. 15) at MacDowell Field.
The nationally-ranked Beavers (4-2) got on the board in the 4th minute with Baroni's first tally, and then Helen DiGiovanni doubled the cushion in the 10th minute. The spread remained 2-0 at the half, though, with shot attempts only at 7-2.
Babson upped the pressure in the 3rd quarter, but could not solve the Nor'easter defense with another 14 tries.
Riley Curtin denied seven shots in the stanza for UNE (1-4).
The push from the hosts ultimately wore down the visitors in the 4th, with two more goals by Baroni and the last in the 56th minute by Charlotte Roe. Final totals heavily favored the Beavers in shots (35-2) and penalty corners (13-0).
Curtin wound up with 18 saves -- one shy of a season-best. Her opposite for Babson, Madison Tibbals, watched both UNE attempts miss just wide.
The Nor'easters will be on the road Friday for a Conference of New England date at Nichols College.
