BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's tennis squad picked up its third win in as many tries so far this season, defeating the University of Maine-Augusta by a 7-0 margin on Saturday (Sep. 12) at the friendly confines of Blue Cyclone Complex.
The Nor'easters (3-0) were already leading in the doubles portion due to a UMA forfeit on the #3 line, and then
Andie Lamontagne and
Sofia Salcedo Ladaga raced out to a 5-0 cushion at #1 doubles. When Lamontagne and Salcedo Ladaga hunkered down and finished off a 6-3 result to get UNE on the board, it was just about time for
Grace Catalano and
Olivia Crooker to put a bow on a 6-3 decision at #2 doubles.
With the Moose (0-2) down two players, the hosts gained those two unplayed singles matches to push the lead to 3-0. Lamontagne coasted at #3 singles (6-0, 6-1) to register the decisive point.
Alyssa Fritschka trailed 2-1 in the opening set at #4 singles, before running off 11 straight games for a 6-2, 6-0 win on the home side. The final two points came from
Madeline Frank at #1 singles (6-1, 6-3) and
Nora Hill at #2 (6-2, 6-3).
The Nor'easters are slated to entertain Colby-Sawyer College in the Conference of New England (CNE) opener on Tuesday (3 p.m.).
