BANGOR, Maine --
Abby Flanagan and
Amanda Forziati individually took first and second, respectively, and paced the University of New England women's golf team to the win in the Husson University Invitational on Saturday (Sep. 12) at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
The Nor'easters assembled a team total of 361, which was good for a 16-stroke victory over the host Eagles, with the University of Southern Maine in third (413). UNE has already doubled its team win number from last season.
Flanagan posted an 8-over-par round of 79, which included an even-par back nine that featured three birdies. Forziati was one behind with an 80, and the next closest competitor in the field of 21 finishers came in with 84.
"Today was difficult due to the combination of high winds and fast greens, but all of our players made a great effort to stay committed to the things we've been working on and I am very happy with our results," said UNE head coach Kasey Keenan. "Both Abby and Amanda once again showed their competitiveness today. Abby's round shadowed that of her round at Point Sebago, where she really figured it out on the back nine. She was locked in and made three pars and three birdies to start the last nine. Amanda has been as consistent as can be this past week, and she has great control over her golf ball right now. I'm very excited for this group to see all of their hard work and commitment being rewarded with early-season success. Looking forward to a full week of preparation prior to our next tournament."
Adding to the UNE score was
Brooke Ingram (97) and
Neave Revaz (105).
The Nor'easters get back to work next Sunday at the Southern Maine Community College Seawolf Invitational at Purpoodock Golf Club.
