BANGOR, Maine -- Sean Guerrette notched a career-best round of even-par 71 to headline the University of New England men's golf group at the Husson University Invitational, which was played Saturday (Sep. 12) at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.

The junior had four birdies and shared runner-up honors in the field of 66 golfers, two strokes back of medalist Michael Bruce (69) from Husson. Guerrette's 71 ties the fourth-lowest raw score, and sixth-lowest in relation to par, in program records.

The host Eagles turned in an even-par total of 284 to lead the 10 competing institutions. Southern Maine Community College (307) and the University of Maine-Presque Isle (307) were next in line. The Nor'easters placed sixth with a sum of 322.

Noah Fay chimed in with a 76 for UNE, while Tim Melley and Sean Zerega added 85 and 90, respectively.

"Today we had a lot of good things happen for our men's golf team," UNE head coach Kasey Keenan reflected. "Sean Guerrette played the best round of his UNE career and had an opportunity to win the tournament going into 18. Extremely proud of how Sean has performed on and off the course these first few weeks. Noah put together a great back nine and showed signs of process, which the coaching staff was very happy to see. The conditions, with the high winds and hard greens, made it a tough day to execute at a high level, but the team's attitude during and after the round left me feeling like we are moving in the right direction as a group. We are looking forward to Waterville this coming weekend, as the program has performed well on that golf course over the years."

Next up for the Nor'easters will be two days at Waterville Country Club, participating first in the University of Maine-Farmington Invitational on Saturday, and then Colby College's Sid Farr Invitational on Sunday.
