LEWISTON, Maine -- Emily Buchter and Julia Chase notched new school standards as the University of New England women's track & field team placed 6th out 10 institutions at the Maine Pine Tree Classic, which wrapped up Saturday afternoon (Apr. 18) on the campus of Bates College.

Previously, Buchter's fastest competition time in the 100 meters was 13.26 seconds (2023), and the program-best was the 13.21 by Rachel Pion (2022). By the end of the day, Buchter had lowered the UNE mark to 13.15.

In one of two events held on Friday, Chase reset her own team record in the high jump. After matching her personal-high of 1.58 meters, she soared to clear 1.60 (5 feet, 3 inches) on her third try and won the event with room to spare. Chase already had a New England Championship-worthy jump this season.

Also in the high jump, Colleen Gilbert tallied a NE-provisional mark of 1.53 meters to place 3rd, while Iris Young added a personal-best of her own (1.48m) to take eighth.

The UNE record holders both the hammer and javelin -- Olivia Chase and Kenzie Cleary, respectively -- continued to stack up big-time throws for the third time this month. Both claimed 2nd place in those events at the meet by registering their second-best throws in collegiate competition. Chase launched the hammer 46.90 meters, while Cleary hurled the javelin 36.97 meters. Both were already booked for a trip to Springfield College in early May with NE-automatic distances.

Additionally, Cleary delivered a NE-provisional measurement of 10.90 meters in the shot put to place 4th. It was her personal best by more than one foot.

Three other Nor'easters found high finishes during the weekend -- all in the 1,500-meter race. Sally Kelton (5:02.80), Sky Anderson (5:05.42), and Sylvie DiBartolomeo (5:05.93) produced points for the team total by crossing the line in 5th through 7th position.

UNE will now prepare for the 2026 Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Track & Field Championship next weekend. Action begins on Friday at Gordon College.
