BRIGHTON, Mass. -- Simmons University gained just enough from the doubles action and then the first three singles matches to defeat the University of New England women's tennis team, 4-3, on Thursday (Apr. 16) at the Daly Field Complex.
The Sharks (12-7) -- the North Atlantic Conference champs, headed to the NCAA tournament -- captured #1 and #2 doubles to get on the board first, and needed those results, as
Sydney Pelletier and
Zoe Lambke rolled to a 6-1 win for UNE at #3 doubles.
After splitting #1 singles and #6 singles -- where Lambke cruised a 6-2, 6-0 victory -- Simmons was able to put away #2 and #3 singles to get to four points and seal the contest.
Sofia Salcedo Ladaga trailed 1-3 and 1-4 in the respective sets she played at #4 singles, only to storm back and claim a 6-3, 7-5 win to score one for the visitors. In a similar fashion, but on a smaller scale,
Alyssa Fritschka and Simmons' Emma Parsons were tied at one set apiece before Fritschka flipped a 0-3 super tiebreak deficit into a 9-4 advantage, and ultimately won, 10-6.
The Nor'easters conclude their inaugural campaign with an overall record of 12-7.
