BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The University of New England women's rugby team won its first three matches of the day before falling to host Bowdoin College in the Polar Bear 7s on Saturday (Apr. 11) at Pickard Field.
The Nor'easters earned victories over Northeastern (17-10), Norwich (36-0), and Thomas (33-14) on their way to the championship fixture. The Polar Bears topped UNE by a score of 47-14 in the finals.
Celeste Valerio had a pair of tries in the opener, with
Tori Demers adding one.
Leah Underwood was 1 of 3 on conversion attempts to account for the remainder of UNE's scoring output.
Four different players found the try zone in the shutout of Norwich. Demers and
Hannah Ramalho did it twice, while
Maeve McNulty and
Sarah Daggett found it once. Underwood and
Caroline Rhodes combined to go 3-for-4 on conversion attempts.
The Nor'easters once again spread around the scoring in the third match of the day versus Thomas. Rhodes, Demers, Underwood (1 conversion also),
Lily Stam and
Mckenna LaBarge each had a try, while Rhodes was perfect on all three conversion attempts.
Stam and
Jo Clark accounted for UNE's tries in the finale, with Underwood and Rhodes each converting their lone conversion attempt.
UNE will conclude its 2025-26 season at the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) Spring 7s Championship next Saturday in Phillipi, W.V.
