MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The University of New England women's rugby team opened its spring 7s season on Sunday with a tournament at Salve Regina. The Nor'easters had both an A and a B squad in action, and the B squad turned in back-to-back victories to earn its respective division title.
UNE's A side was 2-3 on the day with a win over Central Connecticut State, plus a semifinal victory over Salve Regina. The win over the host Seahawks came after a loss to that same group, thanks in part to two tries from
Tori Demers. The Nor'easters lost to a speedy Smith squad in the final.
Joslyn Griffeth's three-try performance powered the Nor'easters to a 20-5 victory over Smith in the B final. Griffeth also notched two conversions in a 19-5 win over Salve Regina.
The Nor'easters' spring slate continues Saturday, April 11 at Bowdoin's Polar Bear 7s Tournament.
