BIDDEFORD, Maine – Endicott College scored seven first-quarter goals and eventually ran away with a 15-6 victory over the University of New England women's lacrosse team in the Conference of New England opener for both sides on Thursday evening at Blue Bolt Field.
Emerson Clark and Mia Samarjian racked up seven points apiece to power the Gulls (4-0, 1-0), who shared the ball to the tune of 14 assists on 15 goals. Clark was responsible for four of those goals, while Samarjian, Mia Smith and Leah Black each netted three.
Molly Henderson was the only UNE player to finish with multiple goals, having put up two.
The Gulls' 7-0 first-quarter lead expanded to 10-2 by halftime, and Endicott maintained a 10-goal margin for much of the third quarter. The Nor'easters (1-4, 0-1) put up four straight second-half goals, eventually coming as close as 13-6 with under seven minutes to go.
Olivia Ferraro made 10 saves for UNE, while her counterpart Faith Minickene finished with six.
Draw controls were nearly even, ultimately siding with Endicott, 13-10. Abbie Belleville and Annabelle Gray both collected three, as did UNE's
Abi Como. The Gulls also claimed a slim 19-17 advantage in ground balls, where
Sydney Balotin and Caroline Rocco matched one another for the game high (5).
The Nor'easters step away from conference action, traveling to Florida next week to visit NAIA member Ave Maria on Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m.
