BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bridgewater State University scored three times in a span of 2:06 in the fourth quarter to break an 8-8 tie on its way to an 11-9 non-conference victory over the University of New England in the home-opener for the Nor'easters Friday afternoon (Feb. 27) at Blue Bolt Field.

After Halle Huizenga knotted the game for UNE with 9:30 on the clock, Erin Henn, Meredith Sylvia and Sophia Fleurent tallied consecutive goals to help provide the Bears with the victory. The three-goal spurt represented the lone time of the contest that the lead exceeded two either way.

UNE pulled within two (11-9) on a Chloe Ryan score with 2:11 remaining, but the Nor'easters were unable to close the gap any further.

Sylvia finished with a game-high four goals to lead the Bridgewater State (1-2) attack. Fleurent and Henn each added a pair, while Sara Skaff earned the victory in goal with a five-save effort.

Huizenga and Ryan scored three goals apiece to pace the Nor'easters. Sydney Balotin, Ainsley Kearney and Molly Henderson rounded out those who found the cage. Olivia Ferraro had a strong game in goal for the Nor'easters, totaling nine stops.

Bridgewater State had a 15-7 advantage in draw controls, but other than that the stat sheet was fairly even. Fleurent accounted for nearly half of the team's draws with seven.

On the UNE side of the ledger, Balotin had team bests in draw controls (5) and caused turnovers (3). Ashlyn Lesure and Cassidy Jacobsen combined for five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The Nor'easters return to action next Tuesday (March 3) when they host Maine Maritime Academy in a 4 p.m. start.
