Zerega leads UNE at CNE Championship

HEBRON, Conn. -- Sean Zerega posted rounds of 80 and 72 to pace the University of New England at the 2026 Conference of New England (CNE) Men's Golf Championship, which concluded the 36 holes of play on Sunday (Oct. 4) at Blackledge Country Club. The Nor'easters (648) placed eighth out of nine institutions.

For the second straight season, the University of Hartford clinched the conference's automatic spot in the national tournament, coming in with a total score of 579 that included a team two-under-par 286 in Round 2. Hartford's Justin Crossen was under par on his own ball during both days to log 139 (70-69) for a five-shot win in the individual competition.

Roger Williams University was second at 595 (296-299), while Endicott College (304-300) and Western New England University (298-306) shared third place.

UNE's split during the weekend was 333 and 315. Saturday's number, after Zerega, included 83 from both Owen Lee and Sean Guerrette, and 87 out of Tim Melley. In the final round, following Zerega was Lee's 77, Melley's 82, and Guerrette's 84. Zerega's 152 total was good for a piece of 16th place in the field of 45. Overall, Lee was next at 160, and then Melley at 169 and Guerrette at 171.

On Sunday, Zerega had a share of the third-best score of the day, aided by three birdies and 12 pars. The even-par total marked the lowest 18-hole performance by a first-year in program records.

Lee and Melley both improved from day one to day two. Lee's second round featured 13 pars, while Melley had eight pars and chipped in for his second birdie on the last hole.

The Nor'easters are back on the course in two weeks at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Cape Cod.
