KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- For the fourth time in as many outings, the University of New England women's golf team dialed up a 1st-place effort and took home the hardware from the UNE Invitational on Thursday (Oct. 1) at Cape Arundel Golf Club.
With team scoring modified to count three scores, instead of the usual four, the Nor'easters generated 263 as their number to beat Southern Maine Community College (272) and the University of Southern Maine (295).
"Our women's program kept their win streak going today, and I was proud of how the team collectively stayed the course and battled on the back nine," UNE head coach Kasey Keenan said afterwards. "Cape Arundel is in great condition and that means that the greens are very difficult. Very happy for Amanda Forziati, as she kept her string of individual top-3 finishes alive, and for Brooke Ingram, who contributed the lowest round of her rookie season. This team has been putting in a lot of work and the coaches are thrilled to see them reap the benefits."
Forziati was solo 3rd place to lead the hosts with an 85, which was four strokes off the pace of SMCC's Grace Thompson (81), and two back of USM's Remy Levin (83).
Abby Flanagan added an 88 to the UNE line, and snagged a piece of 4th place out of the 16 golfers. Ingram sliced five strokes from her previous season-best (in relation to par) and tacked on a 90 that featured 14 holes of either par or bogey.
Ingram was alone in 6th place at the end of the round, while
Neave Revaz (102) found a spot inside the top-10, as well.
The Nor'easters will head to the USM Husky Classic on Sunday.
