CASTINE, Maine -- Maeve McDermott and Payton Walmsley combined for five event wins as the University of New England women's swimming team chalked up a 172-93 triumph against Maine Maritime Academy on Friday afternoon (Jan. 9) at Cary Bok Pool. Plymouth State University also factored in some results, but was not directly competing against UNE.

McDermott accounted for half of the six solo victories by the Nor'easters (4-0), touching the wall first in the 100-fly (1:09.67), 100-free (1:00.80), and 100-IM (1:07.26).

Walmsley picked up right where she left off in her rookie campaign and added first-place efforts in the 50-breast (33.68) and 100-breast (1:14.85). The sophomore was studying abroad last semester.

Bella Shrewsbury chipped in with the top time in the 50-free (27.65), while taking second place in the 50-back (31.86; -0.45) and the 100-back (1:08.72). UNE also received runner-up efforts from Emily Gilliam (twice), Meghan Cabral, Regina Dyer, and Mya Peters along the way.

The Nor'easters captured both relay races, as well. At the start of the meet, Liv Roux, Walmsley, Emmy Hinson, and McDermott combined to clock 2:04.82 in the 200-medley. To close things out, Roux and Walmsley were joined by Ari Cioffi and Tess Zurawski to post 1:53.11 in the 200-freestyle relay.

UNE is back in Biddeford next Saturday (12 p.m.) to take on Rhode Island College.
