Wildcats slip past Nor'easters in OT, 1-0

PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Jordan Hopping stuffed home a rebound with 1:11 remaining in overtime to provide the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats with a 1-0 decision over the University of New England in Conference of New England women's ice hockey action Friday night (Jan. 30) at Lynch Arena.

After the two squads played a scoreless 60 minutes of regulation, JWU controlled played throughout much of the bonus session before finally converting. UNE was unable to clear the puck out of its defensive zone before Sadie Davignon put a shot on goal from the right circle that was saved, but Hopping was in the right spot and the right time and gave the Wildcats the victory.

JWU (9-8-1, 6-5-1 CNE) had the better part of the stat sheet, finishing with a 32-20 margin in shots on goal and winning 32 of 53 face-offs. Goaltender Katelyn Cardoso registered 20 saves to earn the shutout.

Rookie netminder Kyleigh Matola denied 31 shots for the Nor'easters (8-11-0, 4-8-0), who received four blocked shots from Hannah Humes and three from Mackenzie O'Leary.

The two teams have less than 24 hours rest before tangling again, with tomorrow's game at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
