DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Tess Zurawski and Maeve McDermott paced a balanced effort for the University of New England women's swimming team in a 171-69 victory over the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth on Saturday (Jan. 24). The Nor'easters maintain their unblemished record in dual meets with the result, improving to 6-0.

Zurawski captured the 200-back (2:24.35) and then the 500-free in a time of 5:59.18, which was good for the 2.50-second decision over Abby Fernandes of the Corsairs. McDermott was tops in the 50-breast (33.40) -- 0.56 ahead of teammate Payton Walmsley -- and later the 200-IM (2:28.48).

Walmsley came out ahead in a very tightly-contested 50-fly (30.88), in which all four competitors were separated by a total of 0.83 seconds. The 50-free was also crowded at the front of the pack -- four swimmers 0.59 apart -- and Bella Shrewsbury touched the pad in first place with a time of 27.45.

Regina Dyer led the way for UNE in the 100-free (1:01.14), and Mya Peters clocked 12:28.24 to triumph in the 1,000-free to make it eight solo wins for the visitors.

The closest race of the day was the 50-back, when Skye Peters of UMD fractionally edged out Liv Roux by a mere 0.02 with a time of 31.89.

The Nor'easters also swam away with both relays, as Roux, Walmsley, McDermott, and Shrewsbury logged 2:01.43 in the 200-medley, and Shrewsbury, Roux, Dyer, and Lily Stam combined for the victory in the 200-free relay (1:51.43).

On Friday, UNE will participate in the Bates College Relays, and then head to Husson University on Saturday.
