HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- Kerstin Ambruso scored with 2:02 elapsed in overtime to give Nichols College a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the University of New England in a Conference of New England game played Friday evening (Jan. 23) at Levy Rink.
Neither team could get into the scoring column until
Jenna Ruedy took advantage of a Bison turnover in the neutral zone and beat Nichols goaltender Ivy Grant with a high wrist shot to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead at 13:11 of the third period.
Kaylen Taddia recorded her seventh assist of the season on the goal.
The hosts responded 2:31 later, however, when Ambruso notched a power play tally, which was set up by Kasey Litwin and Isabelle Brennan.
Neither squad was able to notch the game-winner in regulation, setting the stage for Ambruso's heroics in the 3-on-3 extra frame to give the Bison two points in the conference standings and send UNE home with just one.
Grant stopped 28 shots for Nichols, which improved to 5-12 overall and 2-10 in CNE action. Counterpart
Danielle DeJon had 27 saves for UNE (7-10, 3-7).
The same two teams will meet again Saturday in Biddeford when the 10th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Harold Alfond Forum.
