BEVERLY, Mass. -- A pair of 1st-period scores from Teaghan Hall and Ella Rago proved to be enough for No.10 Endicott College to record a 2-0 women's ice hockey decision versus the University of New England in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17) at Bourque Arena.
Hall netted the initial goal for the second straight day of contests between the squads -- at 7:29 of the opening frame, on the power play -- but this time the Nor'easters did not have an answer. Rago doubled the cushion at the 17:43 mark.
Lauren Ferrari backstopped the Gulls (11-4-1, 7-2-0 CNE) with 25 saves to keep UNE (7-9-0, 3-6-0) off of the board. Rago added an assist on the first goal for a team-best two points.
Kyleigh Matola registered 41 saves for the visitors, who received defensive support from most of the lineup. The Nor'easters amassed 23 blocked shots between 11 players, topped by
Jamie Ryan with four.
UNE is slated for a home-and-home series with Nichols College next weekend. After Friday's match in Rhode Island, the teams will shift up to Biddeford for the 10th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game on Saturday ( 7 p.m.).
