BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The University of New England women's rugby team opened its 2025-26 season by competing at the Bowdoin College Round Robin on Saturday (Sept. 6).
The Nor'easters dropped a 33-0 decision to the host Polar Bears in the opening fixture before falling just short of Thomas College (21-15) in the final contest of the afternoon.
Hannah Ramalho,
Caroline Rhodes and
Joslyn Griffeth accounted for the UNE scoring output with a try apiece.Â
After being blanked in the opener, UNE found more continuity on offense and was more organized defensively versus the Terriers. Captains
Celeste Valerio and
Reese Meehan were key contributors for the Nor'easters, who had seven players making their collegiate debut (6 playing in their first ever rugby match).
The Nor'easters return to the pitch Friday, Sept. 19 when they host the UNE Invitational at Blue Storm Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
