Flanagan, Forziati take 2nd at Southern Maine Cup

PORTLAND, Maine -- University of New England women's golfers Abby Flanagan and Amanda Forziati combined to finish in 2nd place out of nine duos at the modified-format Southern Maine Cup (USM), which was played until weather halted action on Saturday (Sep. 6) at Riverside Golf Course.

The specialty event puts a pause on the traditional collegiate golf scoring model and pairs teammates for an 18-hole round with three sections -- six holes of scramble format, six holes of alternate shot, and six holes of best ball. The last group on Saturday completed nine holes, so all of the teams were reduced to reflect that progress.

Flanagan and Forziati were five-over-par 41 on the front nine, leaving them five strokes off the pace of leaders Mackenzie Kingsbury and Remy Levin of USM (35). For Forziati, it marks the second straight year as part of the runner-up tandem.

Danielle DeJon and Ella Lemieux teamed up to shoot 51 and place sixth for the Nor'easters, while Eadie Nadeau and Libby Stevens carded 55.

UNE takes to Bangor Municipal Golf Course next Saturday for the Husson Invitational.
