BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Hannah Balmelli scored three times to pace No.24 Bowdoin College in a 7-0 result versus the University of New England in field hockey action Wednesday evening (Sep. 3) at Ryan Field.

The Polar Bears (1-0) recorded all 11 shots and four goals during the opening 30 minutes, including tallies by Andrea Diteodoro and Clara Noyes around an early-2nd quarter pair by Balmelli. Mackay Bommer made the margin six during the initial moments of the 4th, and Fei Yang-Sady capped the scoring in the waning moments.

Eva Filipponi made two second-half saves to preserve the shutout for the hosts

For the Nor'easters (1-2), Savanna Harvey had four stops in goal over nearly 50 minutes of work. Greta Jennison added one save, and Micaela Jacobs contributed a defensive save.

UNE heads to No.19 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday.
