Nor'easters place 4th at Maine Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sally Kelton continued a strong start to her rookie campaign with a top-10 showing at the Maine Championship on Saturday (Sep. 20), helping the University of New England women's cross country team to 4th out of 11 institutions circling the campus of Bowdoin College.

The host Polar Bears had four of the first eight runners and scored 35 to claim the team title, ahead of the Division I University of Maine squad (44) and Bates College (51). UNE (128) and the University of Southern Maine (161) came next, in front of Colby College (184), which had its top seven competing at a different meet.

Lila Garbett completed the 6K course in 21:42 to capture the individual crown for the Black Bears, five seconds in front of Leah White from Bates and the rest of the field of 119.

Kelton clocked in a 22:29 to pace the Nor'easters in 9th position. Joining the scoring effort was Sylvie DiBartolomeo (24th; 23:19), Gianna Rodriguez (26th; 23:23), Corinna Hobbs (42nd; 24:04), and Lilly Mushlit (73rd; 26:12).

The group will take a couple of weeks off before heading to the Keene State College Invitational on October 4.
