WENHAM, Mass. -- Led by three runners inside the top 10, the University of New England women's cross country team claimed 2nd place out of 12 programs on Saturday (Sep. 13) at the Pop Crowell Invitational on the campus of Gordon College.
Competing in the event for the first time since 2022 -- and an eight-year run of winning the title -- the Nor'easters finished with 57 points to wind up behind Wellesley College (38), but comfortably clear of the rest of the field. Endicott College (91), Gordon (104), and Framingham State University (130) rounded out the first five.
Sally Kelton guided UNE for the second straight week, crossing the line 4th out of 118 individuals with a 6K time of 23:25. Two more newcomers to the Nor'easters came next, in
Maya Brochu (7th; 23:41) and
Sylvie DiBartolomeo (9th; 23:49).
Gianna Rodriguez (16th; 24:27) and
Corinna Hobbs (22nd; 25:13) supplied the remaining pieces to complete squad score.
Taking home the individual title was Yasmin Defne Dadikhi of Emerson College, clocking a time of 22:09 with a cushion of more than one minute.
Next week, UNE heads for Bowdoin College and the race for the Maine Championship.
