Silvestri paces UNE at Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. -- Troy Silvestri registered a 5th-place individual effort to lead the University of New England men's cross country team to a 5th-place showing out of 11 institutions running at the Pop Crowell Invitational hosted by Gordon College on Saturday morning (Sep. 13).

Wentworth Institute of Technology had three runners inside of the top 10 on the way to a winning score of 61, ahead of the host Fighting Scots (82), Fitchburg State University (84), Endicott College (99), and the Nor'easters (122).

Fitchburg's Paulino Guevara Mateo looped the 8K course in 25:39 to finish 42 seconds clear of the next fastest competitor among the field of 114.

For UNE, Silvestri clipped the tape in 26:49, while Jackson Stone (24th; 28:40) and Thomas Hoff (26th; 28:43) came next for the cause. Michael Erickson (38th; 29:29) and Edward Iannuzzi-Sucich (46th; 29:51) were responsible for rounding out the team number.

The Nor'easters return to action in seven days at Bowdoin College for the Maine Championship.
