WENHAM, Mass. --
Sarah LaVita captured two
silver medals and
Julia Chase added a
bronze as the University of New England placed sixth out of nine institutions in the 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Track & Field Championship, which wrapped up a full day two of rainy weather at Gordon College on Saturday (Apr. 26).
The Nor'easters had 17 scoring performances on the way to 57 points, which included 18 from LaVita. UNE finished behind the host Fighting Scots (175), the University of Hartford (153), Suffolk University (122), Endicott College (106), and Roger Williams University (70).
LaVita landed on the podium for the third time in as many years in the javelin with a second-place throw of 35.81 meters, and medaled for the first time in the discus with a runner-up distance of 34.68 meters. LaVita now has one gold and three silvers in her conference career, in addition to the 2023 Field Rookie of the Year distinction. The toss in the javelin was also good for UNE's CNE Championship record.
Chase, in her first go at the CNE meet, continued UNE's success in the high jump by clearing 1.51 meters to place third.
The program now has 38 medals in five years of existence -- eight gold, 16 silver, and 14 bronze. CNE all-conference honors for the season are reflected in finishing among the top three in events -- 1st Team, 2nd Team, and 3rd Team, respectively. Major awards will be announced next week.
At the conclusion of the competition, graduate runner
Kelsee Gladu was recognized with the 2025 CNE Women's Track & Field
Elite 20 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA who is participating in the championship.
