BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team unleashed a season-best scoring effort in Wednesday night's regular season finale at Blue Bolt Field, cruising to a 20-3 Conference of New England victory over Curry.
The Nor'easters wrap up the regular season with a 7-8-1 record, along with a 5-3-1 conference mark to earn the fifth seed in the 2025 Conference of New England Women's Lacrosse Championship, and will visit No. 4 Nichols in the opening round on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. The Bison also put together a 5-3-1 CNE ledger and had the tiebreaker for seeding.
UNE needed less than a minute to tally its first goal, and raced to an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Nor'easters had their first 10-goal margin at the 8:30 mark of the second, and maintained a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the night to comfortably extend the series win streak over Curry (4-13, 1-8 CNE) to 12.
Halle Huizenga and
Chloe Ryan both notched career highs in points, leading UNE with five apiece.
Morgan White netted four, and
Sydney Balotin had a hand in four different goals, including two of her own. 12 different Nor'easters found the back of the net, and defender
Kimmy Staniar was able to chalk up her first of the season early in the fourth quarter.
The Colonels mustered just eight shots on goal while UNE frequently maintained control of the ball, aided by a 22-5 advantage in draw controls. Balotin led that category with seven.
Curry was on the receiving end of three early yellow cards, helping UNE post a pair of player-up goals during its 8-0 first-quarter run. The Colonels' first goal of the game, which came at the 13:16 mark of the second, was answered by Huizenga's first of the night that began a 4-0 run, propelling the Nor'easters to their first double-digit advantage.
UNE was able to score two more player-up goals in the third quarter as part of a 6-0 second-half run, which was capped off by Staniar's tally.
