WATERVILLE, Maine -- Izabella Haagenson and Sarah LaVita improved on their own school records as the University of New England women's track & field team placed sixth out of nine local institutions competing at the Maine Pine Tree Classic, which wrapped up on Saturday (Apr. 19) at Colby College's Alfond Track.

The pair were also joined by Cheyenne Cahill and Julia Chase as qualifiers in new events that will take place in next month's New England Championships.

As part of the heptathlon, for which Haagenson (3,196 points) reached the NE standard, she clocked 17.00 seconds in the 100m hurdles to lower the UNE record (by 0.08).

In the discus, LaVita notched three attempts that beat her own UNE record, including a 38.79-meter heave that shattered the previous mark (by 2.10). LaVita took third place in the event, while also claiming fourth in the javelin with a season-best distance of 35.53 meters.

Cahill launched a season-best 11.28 meters in the shot put to book a spot at the NE meet, and Chase cleared 1.56 meters in the high to do the same. The efforts were good for fifth and second place, respectively, against the Maine programs. For Chase, the next height increment was 1.61, with the school mark at 1.57.

The Nor'easters received another high finish from Olivia Chase in the hammer throw (third; 41.35m). Rylier Harrington came in fifth in the 400m hurdles (1:25.92), and Iris Young was sixth in the high jump (1.46m).

Emily Buchter notched the fourth-fastest 100 meters time in program history (13.34), while Jessie Martin in the 1,500 meters (5:06.30), Kassidy Plummer in the hammer (36.24m), and Emma Hutchings in the javelin (26.37m) all had personal-bests that have notable places on school all-time lists.

UNE will now prepare for the two-day 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Track & Field Championships, which begin Friday at Gordon College.
