MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – In its first 7s tournament of the spring, the University of New England women's rugby team placed third at Salve Regina, having narrowly missed second place in a tight match with New Hampshire, on Saturday at Gaudet Field.
The Nor'easters rolled to a 36-10 win over Salve Regina's B side in the opening match before dropping a 24-12 decision to SRU's A squad, then rebounded with a 27-5 triumph over Lasell, and were outdone by New Hampshire, 26-17.
Elizabeth Goodrich was UNE's leading scorer on the day with 30 points from six tries.
Celeste Valerio delivered 20 points with four tries, and
Caroline Rhodes followed with 17 points via three tries and one conversion.
Chloe Seccareccio scored three tries to finish with 15 points, and
Leah Underwood knocked in a team-best five conversions for 10 points. Goodrich scored two tries in three of the Nor'easters' four matches.
The Nor'easters are back in action on Saturday, April 5, traveling to Guilford (N.C.) for the NIRA Spring 7s Championship.
